In the bottom of the seventh, Howard knocked a run in with a two-out single. With runners at first and second and two out, Steve Busby took the mound for the Royals. Burroughs drew a walk to load the bases with two out before Busby struck Kubiak out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Jim Rooker took the mound for the Royals.

In the top of the ninth, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers with a five-run lead to protect and he finished off the shutout.

The Rangers got 10 hits in the win.
