In the top of the first, Mike Young hit a two-run homer 391 feet. Blalock added a 350 foot two-out solo home run. Mench then went 397 feet to make it back-to-back home runs and complete the four-run inning.

In the bottom of the first, Durazo cut the Rangers lead in half with a 355 foot two-run shot.

In the bottom of the second, the Athletics scored a run on a Byrnes two-out single.

In the bottom of the third, Hatteberg delivered the game-tying two-out run-scoring double.

After three: Texas 4 Oakland 4.

In the top of the sixth, Blalock's second home run of the game was a 352 foot two-run bomb that gave the Rangers the lead back and ended the day for Mulder. With the bases empty and nobody out, Chris Hammond took the mound for the Athletics.

In the bottom of the sixth, Ron Mahay took the mound for the Rangers.

After six: Texas 6 Oakland 4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Menechino tied the game with a 382 foot two-run home run. Later in the inning, Durazo hit the go-ahead RBI single. With a runner on first and two out, Doug Brocail took the mound for the Rangers and got the final out of the inning.

In the top of ninth, Arthur Rhodes took the mound for the Athletics with a one-run lead to protect. Eric Young tied the game with a two-out RBI single.

In the bottom of the ninth, with a runner on second and one out, Brian Shouse took the mound for the Rangers. With runners at the corners and one out, Durazo ended the game with a run-scoring single.

The Rangers had 11 hits but also committed three errors in the loss.

Final score: Oakland 8 Texas 7.
