Association Championships - Game 4
Story and Box Score
Mannson Handcuffs Hancocks, Swatters Lead 3-1
The Diamond City Swatters moved to within one game of the Sole Survivor Series today, downing the visiting Goodneighbor Hancocks at The Great Green Jewel by a score of 2-1. Swatters left-hander X10-44 Mannson had a strong outing in which he threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Swatters a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Association Championships.
Mannson allowed 1 run over 7 innings. He also racked up 10 strikeouts.
"It's a mindset," said Mannson. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent. I almost feel like I'm programmed to succeed."
Quincy Eloquent (0-2 in the series) pitched well, but did not receive the support he needed. In 7.0 innings, he allowed two runs, one earned, on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout. All eight Diamond City hits were singles, including three by Allen Bishop and two by Witcher Craft. Craft and Nick Minnier each had RBIs in the game.
The Swatters' first run came on one of Goodneighbor Splotch Pollock's two errors in the game. Tyler Ross singled to lead off the bottom of the 2nd. When he attempted to steal with one out, Pollock threw the ball into center field, allowing Ross to move to third. Minnier then hit a sacrifice fly to score Ross for the 1-0 lead.
Goodneighbor's sole run came in the top of the 5th. John Rose walked to start the inning and moved to second on Jumper Hayes' single. After Zachary Utsinger moved both players over on a sacrifice bunt, Jason Juras hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game, 1-1.
Game 5 is scheduled for tomorrow at The Great Green Jewel. Slated to start are John Oldsink for Goodneighbor and Blaine Phrasemaker for Diamond City.
