Walkers news: June 2 -- Columbus 6, St. Louis 1
Record: 24-31, 6th, 13.5 GB Des Moines
Columbus tallied two runs in the first inning, and two more again in the third to pave the way for a 6-1 win over St. Louis at Forbes Field (1959).
Aaron Nixon led off the bottom of the first inning with a single off River Walkers starter Xavier Wigfall, and the next batter, Kevin Kendall, drew a walk.
That set the stage for both to score when Chris Hery hit a one-out double.
Two innings later, Nixon led off the inning with a single, and he scored when Kendall hit his third home run of the season.
The Bears lead grew to 5-0 in the fifth.
Kendall and Javy Gutierrez both drew two-out walks from Wigall.
Kendall scored on a Hery single, which featured an error in right field by Alex Greene.
Columbus starting pitcher Agustin Perdomo worked 8.1 innings, allowing one run, a homer from Jose Ramirez in the seventh inning, on four hits. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Mike LaFramboise recorded the final two outs of the game.
