1985 - Key Injury

09/29/1985 - The Cleveland Indians were dealt a severe blow when Andres Galarraga was hurt running the bases recently in a game against the California Angels. After the game, the team trainer reported Galarraga might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 24-year-old first baseman out for the rest of the season with a strained abdominal muscle. They indicated it would take Galarraga at least 4 weeks to heal.

This year Galarraga is hitting at a .299 pace with 23 home runs and 98 RBIs. He has played in 130 games and scored 77 times.

This is a huge blow to Cleveland who appear to have lost their star first baseman (and potential Rookie of the Year) for the playoffs against Seattle. Galarraga was leading Cleveland in RBI's while second on the team in both batting average and home runs. The odds just changed for the ALCS!
