Walkers news: June 29 -- Des Moines 5, St. Louis 4
Record: 33-47, 7th, 14.5 GB Des Moines
Trailing 4-2, Rafael Devers hit a three-run home run off St. Louis reliever Nick Ruffalo with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to help lift Des Moines to a 5-4 win at Busch Stadium (2006).
River Walkers starter Xavier Wigfall had been impressive coming into the seventh, having allowed two runs, but got into trouble with a single and a walk while recording a pair of outs.
Ruffalo got the call to face Devers, a future Hall of Famer, and it didn't work out.
Devers hit a 1-2 pitch 442 feet over the wall in right-center, his 16th homer of the season to put the Harvesters ahead 5-4.
Des Moines starting pitcher Marshall Larcombe worked five innings, allowing one run on five hits.
Ryan Cusick started the sixth, and took a pounding as St. Louis got a three-run homer from Jared Thomas before he record an out.
It was Thomas' second homer of the game.
Jake Amezquita got out of the sixth without any more damage.
Amezquita (5-1) would earn the win.
After that, it was a scoreless inning each from Yuki Matsui, Craig Burch and Travis Krogman.
The save was Krogman's 22nd of the season.
