CBO: Howard Announces Partnership, Rule Change

CBO Commissioner Nate Howard announced today two changes to take place for the CBO starting in the 2300 season.

The biggest change the day before the CBO Rookie Draft is that the CBO will now include the Boston Youth Development League under the CBO umbrella. Currently, the BYDL is the main player supplier to the CBO with around 80% of all players having played for one of the 20 BYDL teams before they were draft eligible.

The BYDL did have a lack of talent for some time since the original CBO Inaugural draft allowed players as young as 16 to join the draft. After that season, the CBO required all draft picks to be either 18 or 19 years old at the time of the draft.

In addition to becoming a part of the CBO, the BYDL will expand to 24 teams from its current 20. Just four years ago, the BYDL was made up of only 10 teams. The teams are not affiliated with individual teams, so the BYDL is a feeder league for the CBO.

The CBO teams are as follows in no particular order: Pleasant Minigunners, Boston Common Baby Bellies, Beerthirty Sippers, Thompson Heights Earthlings, Green Future Sea Urchins, Fallon's Shoppers, North Charles Bank Goonies, Boston Harbor Harborfellows, South Charles Bank Moonies, Diamond City Newsboys, Hester Consumers, Andrew Station Southies, Jamaica-UPoint Death Rockets, South Beach Waves, Concord-Lexington Minuteboys, Haymarket Haymakers, Kendall Hospital Yahoos, State House Orphans, Gwinnett Restaurant Seasiders, and Wattz Ups.

In other news, Howard cited competitive balance in making a rule that limits the use of stimpacks on players for life-threatening injuries only. That means that players injured over the course of a baseball game will have to heal naturally before they can return to the field. Howard said that the decision was made due to the action of the Atom Cats organization when they decided to seek their own stimpacks among the shortage.

Howard took a vote at the meeting and there was more support than he expected with a 17-6 vote in favor of changing the rule to eliminate stimpacks. Starlight Lady Killers owner Irish Cait decided to recuse herself from the vote since she was the person who proposed the idea. Three of the six votes against the rule change came from the Minutemen League, including Atom's owner, Zeke Cat. Warwick's Roger Warwick and Quincy's Smiling Larry were the other two. The other three voting against the rule were County Crossing's Doc Weathers and Vault 81's Dr. Jacob Forsythe, citing long-term health issues as a concern, and Nordhagen Beach's Emogene Cabot.
