Kansas City scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off St. Louis starting pitcher Justin Doughtie, and the Monarchs made it hold up winning 2-1 at Busch Stadium (2006).
It started in the top of the first with a lead-off walk to Cole Wagner.
After a fly out, Josh Shuler drew another walk.
Wagner was thrown out stealing for the second out while Darren Miller was at the plate.
Miller, however, came through with a double scoring Schuler.
Ed Moore followed with a single to plate Miller.
St. Louis got its lone run in the bottom of the second off Monarchs starter Mike Tucker.
Jared Thomas drew a lead-off walk and scored on a Jovan Gill single.
That would be the extant of the scoring, although the River Walkers outhit KC 11-6 and left eight runners in scoring position.
Tucker (12-9) earned his 12th win by going 5.1 innings, during which he allowed one run on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two.
Nate Guthrie finished off the sixth for KC.
Four relievers -- Zachary Stella (1.0 IP), Jose Lazaro (0.1), Matt Broussard (0.1) and Grayson Rodriguez (1.0) -- combined to finish the game for the Monarchs.
Rodriguez earned his first save.
