Wash's Pinch-Hit, Walk-off Homer Saves Chemists
Sunshine Tidings Chemists reserve infielder Greg Wash has hit exactly one career home run. That came in a rare start in 2296 while with the Atom Cats off Warwick's John Diner, now of the Victory Cave Crickets in the NWL. Wash has now hit two, as his pinch-hit, two-run home run led his team to a 4-3 walkoff victory over the Concord Radstags in an elimination game in Fort Hagen.
Facing newly-acquired Aaron Still, considered by most scouts to be the CBO's second-best closer, Wash took an 0-2 changeup over the right-center field fence, sending the Stags home.
The home run gave Danny Beerholder the win. He pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts. His performance overshadowed Concord's Phil Cecil, who allowed two earned runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
The Chemists' rookie third baseman Cy Thompson hit a two-run home run in the 2nd that gave his team a 2-1 lead at the time. Pockets Aintfull, a second-year player for the Stags after being traded by The Slog midseason, hit a go-ahead homer in the top of the 8th that Gave Concord a 3-2 lead.
