April 2300 - BNN Weekly Report - April 9

Let me see if I like this format. It may and probably will be tweaked as I experiment with what works best for me. I am going to try to sim a week at a time, but I also need to maximize the time it takes me. For now, I typed out scores. I wish that OOTP allowed all screens to have an "Open in Browser" button.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

9 April 2300

News from Around the League

Season Starts Without a Hitch

The 2300 CBO season has begun. While the other major league, the Nuka World League is still training their players and preparing for their start a week from today, the CBO has already seen some interesting baseball in the first five games of the 108-game season.

There have been no major events in the first week with all teams beginning regularly. The 2299 CBO Champions, the Diamond City Swatters, had a banner-hanging ceremony on opening day against the Jamacia Plain Red Rockets. Fort Hagen, who lost to the Swatters in the Sole Survivor Series, also congratulated their 2299 team on opening day against The Slog.

In other news, we have moved trades, injuries, and roster moves to the transactions section of our Weekly Report instead of featuring them as individual stories. Unless there is something outstanding--creature attacks, for example--there will rarely be news stories, especially for baseball-related injuries.

We are getting our footing here at the new BNN headquarters in Diamond City, but we hope you enjoy our new entertainment digest. BosCom is also expanding its news segments with News, Entertainment, Sports, and Weather forecasts around the Commonwealth. Tune in every day to Channel 1 of BosCom for its news programs with an hourly updates on BosCom and its intraweb terminal sites.

Analysis

Week One is in the books, and we honestly know nothing! One thing that we can see is that the Lexington Synths, Starlight Lady Killers, and Egret Ninjas collectively had the best Week One in wins and performance, all going 4-1 while having at least a +16 run differential.

One the bright side for league parity, no team secured two sweeps and then a Sunday win, with the only team eligible to do that being the Ninjas who started 4-0 but lost their first game yesterday. At the same time, no team was swept twice and then lost Sunday. In fact, no team was swept twice with every team getting their first win in the first four games. Currently five teams share the CBO lead of a 4-1 record, while five more teams are tied for the CBO's worst record at 1-4.

The defending champions, the Diamond City Swatters, started and finished the 2299 season as the best team, but they come in at #16 in the first Power Rankings after a 2-3 week. The Swatters split home series against both Jamaica Plain (#15) and Goodneighbor (#9).

The NCA's champions of 2299, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, enter as the #17 team after also going 2-3. The Shroud started by getting annihilated in two home games vs The Slog (#12) before edging out County Crossing (#19) twice at home. Fort Hagen then dropped their game yesterday at Easy Town (#14).

The Synths and Killers are both technically tied for the #1 spot due to their quality points, but we will give Lexington the edge because of a +18 run differential and feature them below in "Team Focus." They went 4-1 with a split against Salem (#7) and sweeping Easy Town, with a win yesterday at Finch Farm (#22). Starlight split with the Assaultrons before sweeping the Four Leafs and winning one at County Crossing.

The other three 4-1 teams are Nordhagen Beach, University Point, and the Ninjas. The Party Boys won two at Abernathy (#21), which has had a terrible 1-4 start after going 6-0 in the Nuka Cup Tournament to win the banner; split with Concord (#13); and beat Abernathy again yesterday. The new-look Deathclaws won two at Oberland (#6), who has won three-straigh since; split at FHE (#8), also 3-2; and then downed the Ninjas to stop their four-game winning streak. Actually, the Deathclaws probably should be #1 since they beat three teams four times that are collectively 10-5 with four of those five losses coming against University Point. Egret swept Atom (#20) and Warwick (#23) before succumbing to the Deathclaws.

Team Focus: Lexington Synths

The Lexington Synths play in what may prove to be a tough Institute League in 2300. With the reigning league champions, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and two other teams expected to be good in the Starlight Lady Killers and the Abernathy Adamantium, the Synths will have a tough 2300 to show they belong like in 2297 when they won the IL. With a strong start to the 2300 campaign, albeit against a weaker league in the Brotherhood League, the Synths are flying their banners a little higher than the rest.

Crooked Tostado, who has been one of the better home run hitters in the CBO since being drafted in the 1st round (#13) overall in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, has started out the 2300 campaign on fire. With six home runs in the first five games, including two on Thursday against Easy Town and another two yesterday at Finch Farm, Tostado earned Player of the Week honors in the NCA. He currently leads the CBO in homers and RBI (13), making him a force in why the Synths have been so good thus far. Lexington is also currently 1st in homers as a team (11) thanks to Tosatado. Bubb Islander has also contributed, batting .409 in the first week and tied for second in the CBO in runs scored (7) and doubles (3). The rest of the lineup can do better, but C Mike Davidson had a good week, going .286 vs his career batting average of now .205.

Pitching is worth talking about, especially with Tristan Marble trying to solidify himself as an ace. In two starts this season, he is 2-0 with a 1.26 ERA, outdueling Tony Bertha of Salem on opening day and then shutting out the Assaultrons for 5.1 innings on Friday. With 12 runs allowed, the Synths are currently tied for 1st with Nordhagen Beach for the fewest. Lexington also has an NCA-best 1.69 Starters ERA and their bullpen is tied for 2nd with a 0.69 ERA. Greg Mardis (1-0) has also contributed by allowing only one run in 12.2 innings in his two starts.
