10 April - BMU News: Opening Day: It's Opening Day in Boston Minor Union!
The brand new 2300 pennant race begins today. The clubs are poised and primed for another new season of baseball filled with plenty of spills, chills, hits, runs, errors and homers. Another exciting season kicks off with these games:
Greentop Nursery Night People @ Galleria Robotics Experts
Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters @ Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks
Breakheart Banks Behemoths @ Malden Grognaks
C.I.T. Ruins Refractors @ Corvega Flamers
Union Hope Lifegivers @ Bunker Hill Gun Fu
Mystic Pines Raybathers @ College Square Nerd Ragers
Cabot House Rayguns @ Haymarket Mall Commandos
Charles View Cannibals @ Trinity Plaza Snipers
Postal Square Action Boys @ Boston Common Lead Bellies
Eastlake Aquaboys @ Somerville Place Sentry Bots
Fiddler's Green T-60s @ Natick Banks Big Leaguers
Forest Grove Pugilists @ Vault 95 Robobrains
10 April - Laloosh Hurls Forest Grove to Shutout Win
Nuke Laloosh of the Forest Grove Pugilists was lights-out in a 4-hit whitewash of the Vault 95 Robobrains.
"I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go," he told BNN reporters after the contest.
Laloosh registered 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in shutting out Vault 95, 2-0.
12 April - Commandos Listless in 6-0 Loss to Rayguns
Today was Copper Geffre's turn in the rotation for the Cabot House Rayguns and he made the most of it, shutting out the Haymarket Mall Commandos on 4 hits.
The 19-year-old right-hander led the Rayguns to an easy 6-0 victory, allowing no walks and tallying 7 strikeouts.
"I hope we miss him next time," Haymarket Mall manager Squirt Becker said. "Geffre certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
Players of the Week
CA Names Strongbacks Heat Winner: Keagan Heat is respected by most Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks fans for his no-frills style of play. The 32-year-old shortstop went about his business with vigor last week to grab the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors.
He compiled a .529 average (9-for-17) with 1 home run, 5 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
Brownell Week's Best in MA: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Massachusetts Association, but last week Dusty Brownell of the Boston Common Lead Bellies reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Brownell rocked opposing pitching for a .692 average (9-for-13), 5 home runs and 14 RBIs to come away with the award.
Prospect Spotlight
#2 - CF Maxx Murtagh, Greentop Nursery (Nordhagen Beach) - 3/15 (.200), HR, 3 R, RBI, 2 BB, 8 SO, CS
Analysis: Murtagh is hitting the ball hard but not finding the gaps in a slow start to 2300. Last season he finished with a .229/.385/.358 line with 7 HR and 24 RBI. The Nordhagen Beach franchise believes that his hits will come, but they are allowing him to experiment with his swing. He has plus-potential in contact and power, so the Party Boys want him to feel it and they feel that he can be similar to another recent call-up, Jonathan Angelou.
#4 - SP Eugene Gym, Forest Grove (Roxbury) - GS, 0-1, 19.29 ERA, 2.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, BB, 4 K
Analysis: Gym was disappointed to be passed over by Laloosh as the ace for the Pugilists and came out with a terrible showing in a short start. After going 2-6 with a 9.40 ERA as the #1 overall pick last season, Roxbury is hoping to see him "get it," which he has yet to show.
#8 - SS Tib Shorthop, Galleria (Finch Farm) - 6/26 (.231), 2 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 7 SO, SB
Analysis: Shorthop is not on this list because of his hitting but because he is a defensive expert. Should he start in the CBO, he would hit in the .1XX range but also probably win the Corvega Top Defenders Award at shortstop. Still, before he is ready for the big time, it would help that he takes instructions and learns how to hit.
#11 - LF Whiskey Nightcap, Union Hope (Lexington) - 6/18 (.333), 2 2B, HR, 5 R, 3 RBI, 3 SO, 2 SB
Analysis: Nightcap had a good first week for the Lifegivers. Started on Lexington's roster, but they decided to send him down right away to build his skills and come back as a starter and, as they hope, a star.
#13 - RF Gunner Eyesocket, Haymarket (Jamaica Plain) - 7/17 (.412), 2 2B, HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, SO
Analysis: Jamaica Plain is crazy about what they believe Eyesocket will eventually provide to their CBO team. They expect him to be a .300+ hitter with around 20 HR per season, which would be a tremendous help to the CBO team. Currently, the Red Rockets are strongest in the outfield, though, so there is no room for Eyesoccket just yet.
