The Rays were kind of shortchanged in the All-Star picks with only four making the team: Brendan McKay, Matt Peacock, Brandon Lowe (who won the voting at 2B) and Christian Vazquez. Here are the rosters:
The Home Run Derby:
Pete Alonso wins the battle of New York, as the Mets have done throughout the season with a better record than the Yankees. Which reminds me, here are the standings and leaders at the All-Star Break:
And for the game itself:
It was a pretty dull affair after the AL scored 4 in the first inning off Jacob deGrom, with only 6 hits the rest of the way combined by both teams. The most excitement after the 1st inning came when Pete Alonso was ejected for arguing a called third strike. Matt Peacock ended up the winning pitcher, although technically it should have gone to Shane Bieber as there's no 5-inning requirement to get a win in the ASG. Both he and Brendan McKay had scoreless innings while Brandon Lowe was 0-1 with a walk.
