Avery Williams shut St. Louis out into the eighth inning and Twin Cities avoided being swept at home with a 3-1 win over the River Walkers at Target Field (2010).
Williams (2-3) allowed just a pair of singles over the first 7.1 innings. He struck out three and walked one.
The left-handed exited after retiring Nick Shaw to open the top of the eighth.
Elliott Calleson took over and retired two of the next three River Walkers hitters to keep it 3-0.
St. Louis did get a run against Jesse Gaither in the ninth -- pinch-hitter Nathaniel Dixon tripled with one out and scored on a Freudis Nova two-out double -- but Gaither got Jared Thomas to fly out to end it.
It was Gaither's sixth save.
The Snow Cats got all three of their runs against St. Louis starterJesse McNaboe in the bottom of the fifth.
Four of their first five batters of the inning, all reached on hits.
Williams drove in two with a single.
Williams scored the third run, when a throw by catcher Jared Thomas went into center fielder on a steal attempt by Forrest Nance.
