News Around the League

9 May 2300 - Borden Humbles Galleria, 7-0

Milkmouth Borden of the Union Hope Lifegivers dominated the day at General Atomics Galleria Park today, pitching shutout ball against the Robotics Experts and holding them to 8 hits. He fanned 5 and walked 3 in spinning the 7-0 win.

"I can't take all the credit for this one," Borden said. "I had some great defense behind me."

In season stats Borden shows a 2-2 record in 5 games, 33 innings, 20 strikeouts and a 2.73 ERA.

Players of the Week

CA Star of the Week Announced: Jason Giron demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.

The C.I.T. Ruins shortstop wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .667 average (8-for-12) with 3 home runs and 3 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Currently Giron is batting .485 with 32 hits and 5 home runs. He has knocked in 14 runs and scored 18 times.

Rifleman on the Attack, Player of the Week: 22-year-old Kern Rifleman made a few Charles View headlines during this past week as the rookie right fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Massachusetts Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 8 hits in 13 at-bats to put up a .615 average. Rifleman collected 1 home run, 7 RBIs and scored 4 runs.

Thus far this year Rifleman is batting .384 with 7 home runs, 24 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Prospect Spotlight

ROOKIE FOCUS

SP Nuke Laloosh, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury) - 4 GS, 3-0, 3.00, 30.0 IP, 27 HA, 10 ER, 8 BB, 10 K
Analysis - Other than his low strikeout numbers, the 1st overall pick in the 2299 draft has looked the part of the future ace in Roxbury. There really is nothing to explain the lack of strikeouts overall since he is showing everything that the Rad Sox could hope for when drafting him off the BYDL champion Beerthirty Sippers. His control needs a bit more work, but he is better than average in the BMU. His changeup is not as effective as scouts think it will be, but once it comes around his strikeout numbers should follow.

CF Sharkey Lurkfodder, Malden Grognaks (County Crossing) - 21/58 (.362), 4 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 10 R, 11 RBI, 6 BB, 10 SO, 4 SB, CS
Analysis: The 2nd overall pick in the 2299 draft, Lurkfodder has burst out of the gates so far in 2300 with the Grognaks. Lurkfodder is among the rookie leaders in almost every category.

SS Rick Rolled, Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters (Easy Town) - 25/74 (.338), 2 2B, 10 R, 6 RBI, BB, 12 SO
Analysis: The 4th overall pick, Rick has rolled along so far in the bottom third of the Hunters order despite having the second-best batting average on his team. He seems to be doing decent at the SS position with just three errors in 17 games played there.

C Silvam Fourteen, Somerville Place Sentry Bots (Egret) - 22/71 (.310), 2 2B, 3 HR, 11 R, 15 RBI, 4 BB, 13 SO
Analysis: The 10th overall pick, Fourteen is currently tied for the BMU lead among rookies in RBI. Like Rolled, Fourteen is batting 6th in the Bots' lineup, but he has been extremely productive in the BMU's best overall offense.

SP Nate Dorrit, Breakheart Banks Behemoths (Salem) - 4 GS, 2-1, 2.22, 28.1 IP, 18 HA, 7 ER, 17 BB, 8 K
Analysis: After surprisingly falling in the 2299 draft (drafted in the 3rd round, #64 overall) after striking out 115 in 68.0 innings in the BYDL, Dorrit is showing why he should have gone higher so far. Like Laloosh above, his strikeout numbers are not great, even though he has been extremely successful. The rest of the Behemoths pitching staff is not anywhere as good, so it has been all Dorrit finding success. Comparing him to fellow draftee Major Tom Brennan (2-3, 10.27), Dorrit looks to have been the better pick.
