Walkers news: June 16 -- Cleveland 3, St. Louis 1
Record: 34-35, 5th, 7.5 GB Cedar Rapids
Sparked by a two-out error in center field by Jose Segura, Cleveland took control of a scoreless game with three runs in the top of the sixth inning and went on to defeat St. Louis 3-1 at Busch Stadium (2006).
The loss extended the River Walkers' losing streak to eight games.
St. Louis starting pitcher Jesse McNaboe retired the first two Juke Box Heroes hitters in the top of the sixth, but Jon Howard kept the inning going with a double.
Edgar Bustillos, a former top prospect for St. Louis then hit a fly ball to center which Segura somehow misplayed.
Howard scored on the error.
Joe Silverstein kept the inning going with another double scoring Bustillos to make it 2-1.
When Tony Jackson connected on a single, Cleveland's owned a 3-0 lead.
St. Louis did get a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Dan Hillard led off with a triple off Heroes starting pitcher Bryan Sharpe.
He scored on a Segura fly ball.
Sharpe (6-3) went six innings, allowing one run on six hits.
Renaud Magoni, Ernesto Barbosa and Victor Vodnik all pitched an inning apiece.
Vodnik saw his defense commit a pair of errors behind him in the bottom of the ninth, but struck out the other three batters he faced for his second save.
