Last Month in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2300

Players of the Month

Fort Hagen's Pawlak Winner, NCA Best Hitter in May: When Ben Pawlak stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

The young Fort Hagen center fielder posted a .318 batting average with 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and scored 20 runs. Pawlak also worked pitchers for 10 walks to post a .396 on-base percentage.

To date, Pawlak has collected 54 hits for a .321 average. He has posted 12 home runs, scored 35 runs and driven in 34 runs.

Super Month Nets Jones #1 Batter Prize in SCA: University Point Deathclaws fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in May.

Tomas Jones put up a remarkable month at the age of 23 and has been named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month.

For the month, Jones hit .402 with 9 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This season Jones is swinging the bat at a .396 pace. He has hit 17 home runs and scored 46 times, while driving in 49. His on-base percentage is .444 and he has played in 42 games.

Westing Is May's Best NCA Hurler: Last month was a very successful month for Brad Westing of Abernathy. So successful that he has been honored as the Pitcher of the Month in the North Charles Association.

Westing shut down league hitters in fine fashion, rounding out May with an impressive 5-1 mark and 1.72 ERA in 6 starts with 33 strikeouts in 47 innings.

So far this year Westing has compiled a 6-5 record with a 2.69 ERA.

SCA Selects Redcoats May's Best Starter: The Vault 81 Dwellers felt very secure when they sent Curt Redcoats out to the hill last month. The 37-year-old starter went after South Charles Association hitters with a vengeance and earned May's Pitcher of the Month award.

He went 4-0 with a 2.58 ERA as he struck out 37 in 45.1 innings over 6 starts.

To date this season, Redcoats has registered 10 starts, 5-2 won-lost mark, 3.26 ERA, 69 IP, 55 strikeouts and 32 walks. Opposing teams have hit .212 against him.

Rubric Named NCA's Best Rookie: May's Rookie of the Month Award in the North Charles Association went to Mike Rubric of Abernathy.

He was outstanding in 5 starts last month as he notched 3 wins and 1 loss, a 2.82 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

This year Rubric has compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.15 ERA in 7 starts.

South Charles Association Names Rookie of Month: Deerlord Fugivmee's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Roxbury third baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .316 with 9 doubles, 2 triples and no home runs. Fugivmee also scored 9 times and drove in 9 runs.

So far this season Fugivmee is hitting .296 with 1 home run.

Top Players Through May

NCA Nuka-Hitter Award Leader - CF Sean Samuels, Easy Town - 61 for 174 (.351), 13 2B, 2 3B, 10 HR, 39 R, 31 RBI, 23 BB, 14 SO, 5 SB, CS
Others Considered: CF Ben Pawlak, Fort Hagen; C Biter Trout, County Crossing; 1B Dustin Mart, Nordhagen Beach; LF Dan Erb, Concord
Analysis: There are several players hitting really well this season, but Samuels has a slight edge overall. Looking at statistical outputs and the NCA leaderboards, he is 6th in batting average, tied for 4th in home runs, 7th in OBP, 2nd in slugging, 1st in OPS, tied for 2nd in WAR, 3rd in hits, 1st in runs, tied for 4th in doubles, 1st in total bases, tied for 1st in extra-base hits, 6th in ISO, 2nd in OPS+, 1st in WPA, and 1st in WOBA.

SCA Nuka-Hitter Award Leader - RF Joe Rathmann, FHE - 64 for 146 (.438), 11 2B, 9 HR, 40 R, 35 RBI, 45 BB, 19 SO, 18 SB, 5 CS
Others Considered: 1B Oren Gep, Diamond City; 1B Barker Cocoa, University Point; RF Tomas Jones, University Point; CF Aesed Hayjen, Vault 81
Analysis: Rathmann is having a stellar year, with his .438/.567/.699 line looking to be one for the ages if it holds up. Last season, Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman finished with a .741 Slugging Pct, but otherwise Rathmann is on track to a record year after two months. He leads the CBO in batting average, OBP, WAR (3.9), and WPA (3.95). He also leads the SCA in stolen bases (18) and walks (45). In the SCA he ranks 5th in slugging, 3rd in OPS (1.266), 5th in hits, tied for 4th in runs, 6th in total bases (102), 2nd in caught stealing (5), 1st in steal attempts (23), 3rd in OPS+ (220), and 2nd in WOBA (.530).

NCA Vim! Pitcher Award Leader - SP Derek Green, Fort Hagen - 10 GS, 5-1, 2.08, 78.0 IP, 50 HA, 18 ER, 31 BB, 64 K
Others Considered: Matt Hope, Fort Hagen; Chet Arthur, Nordhagen Beach; Mike Rubric, Abernathy; Tommy Beach, Nordhagen Beach
Analysis: The Silver Shroud have the top two pitchers right now in Green and Hope, but we give the edge to Green. He leads the NCA in ERA, ERA+ (214), rWar (3.1), BABIP (.230), Opponents AVG (.182), and quality starts (9), and he is tied for 1st for shutouts (2). He is also tied for 4th in wins, 4th in WAR (2.4), tied for 2nd in complete games (3), 3rd in strikeouts (64), tied for 6th in walks allowed (31), 4th in K/9 (7.4), 3rd in WHIP (1.04), 4th in FIP (3.07), and 2nd in WINP (.833).

SCA Vim! Pitcher Award Leader - SP Sheng Kawolski, Oberland - 11 GS, 7-2, 2.79, 77.1 IP, 57 HA, 24 ER, 22 BB, 72 K
Others Considered: SP Edwin Mass, Vault 81; SP Quentin Malone, University Point; Beachboy Nut, Roxbury; Chris Teddybear, Jamaica Plain
Analysis: We would consider the Red Rockets' Teddybear, except that he is out for the year. Otherwise, he is a dominant force on an average-to-bad team. As far as Kawolski is concerned, he is doing what he does best: strike out a lot of hitters as he has done every season. In the closest race we could think of, Kawolski leads the SCA in strikeouts and Opponents AVG (.201), and he is tied for 1st in quality starts (9). He is also tied for 2nd in wins, tied for 2nd in shutouts (1), 7th in K/BB (3.3), 2nd in K/9 (8.4), 3rd in WHIP (1.02), 5th in ERA+ (158), 4th in rWAR (3.0), 3rd in BABIP (.234), and 2nd in Win% (.778).
