1985 - ALCS - Game 2

Cleveland will send Alan Hargesheimer (17-6, 2.77) to the hill against Seattle’s Mike Witt (15-9, 3.99). Seattle started the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd with back-to-back doubles by Oddibe McDowell and Paul Molitor to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. Mike Witt was cruising until the 7th when got into a jam in the 7th and loaded the bases with none out. A short fly ball to left field was dropped by Ivan Calderon allowing Geno Petralli to score and tie the game at 1 run apiece. But Cleveland scored 2 more –sac flies be Ken Griffey and Ron Oester to give Cleveland a 3-1 lead going into the 7th inning stretch. Seattle cut into the lead scoring a run in the 7th on a walk and two singles, including the RBI single by Paul Molitor. Cleveland added 3 insurance runs in the top of the 9th to take a 6-2 lead with only 3 outs separating them from victory. Scott Holman put down the Mariners in order to preserve the 6-2 win and Cleveland came into Seattle and swept the Mariners to take a 2-0 lead in the series as we move back to Cleveland! Paul Molitor earned the Player of the Game award going 3/5 with 2 RBI’s for Seattle.
