My DVR refused to record the 9th inning last night (possibly out of self-defense), so I want to thank Edlose Diaz for letting me know I wasn't missing anything.

WTF was Diaz doing in there in the 8th, anyhow? it was only 2-1, what if we tied/took the lead in the 9th? Who closes then? Way to go, Boy Genius.

If you do only have 3 relievers you trust (out of 32 or however many arms in the pen), then shouldn't Lugo get the 6-out duty, not Edlose?

Or maybe you could let Stroman (5 losses in a row) pitch the 6th? He'd only thrown 91 pitches. A bit hard to complain about a lack of pitching depth when you won't let Marcus go any deeper than a toddler in floaties.

(What happened was that with 6-7-8 due up in the Mets' 6th, Boy Genius thought hee'd need to pinch-hit for Marcus, and so gave him the Handshake of Doom. Mets did get a baserunner…but Nido GIDP, erasing him, so the 9-hole didn't bat. But I guess you can't take back the Handshake, right?)

Adventures in RiSP: in the 4th, Mets load the bases with nobody out. Marcus looks at three strikes, too scared of the DP to even swing, leaving it to Nimmo…who swings at the 1st pitch and GIDP. Mets get zero runs…but only leave two men on base, thanks to that DP.

Great Moments in Metscasting: McNeil doubles to lead off the fifth. Up comes Pete, who "really gets into that!" per Gary Thorne. However, the ball does not go out…or off the wall…or reach the track…or get deep enough for McNeil to take 3rd. Talk about oversell. (Keith blames the wind, says he was fooled, too. Uh-huh.)

Dom Smith also flies out. Baez, shockingly, strikes out. Mets do not score.
