Nate Thompson had pitched decently in his starts in the ALDS and ALCS, but today he looked like the Nate Thompson we've seen much of this season, the best pitcher in the AL (and perhaps all of MLB). He didn't allow a hit until the 5th, and combined with Jim Golunski on a 3-hit shutout to propel the Rays to a Game 1 World Series win. It was a tight, low-scoring affair until the Rays broke it open with 4 in the 8th, thanks mostly to a rare homer off a lefty (former Ray Steve Givens) by Daniel Vasquez. Josh Carsello will look to double the Tampa Bay series lead tomorrow.
