Walkers news: August 20 -- Catcher Melendez signed to contract; Wescot gets released
The St. Louis River Walkers have announced the signing of veteran catcher Kevin Melendez.
Melendez, 34, has not played this season.
He least appeared in the majors with the Walkers during the 2033 season, during which he hit .214 with seven homers and 19 RBIs.
Melendez also spent the 2031 season in St. Louis an the 2032 campaign with AAA Memphis.
Veteran catcher Bobby Wescott was released to make room for Melendez.
Wescott, 32, was signed by St. Louis in July and was moved to the major league roster when Will Banfield was traded just before the trade deadline.
Wescott got into seven games for the Walkers, all of them starts.
He batted .120 with no homers or RBIs.
St. Louis went 1-6 in the six games he started behind the plate.
