Walkers news: August 30 -- St. Louis 8, Milwaukee 2
Record: 60-72, 6th, 23 GB Des Moines
Tied 1-1, St. Louis scored twice in the top of the sixth inning, and the River Walkers went on to defeat Milwaukee 8-2 at Miller Park.
The win allowed St. Louis to avoid getting swept in the three-game series. It also snapped a four-game losing streak.
Freudis Nova got things rolling in the top of the sixth with a one-out single off Crushers starting pitcher George McCardel
Jared Thomas scored Nova when he followed with a double.
Chris Duncan made it three straight hits, a single which scored Thomas
Milwakee's Jarrod Twomey made it 3-2 when he led off the bottom of the sixth with a homer off St. Louis starting pitcher Xavier Wigfall.
That, however, would be the end of the scoring for Milwaukee.
St. Louis added a single run in the seventh -- Hector Tavarez led off with a single off Milwaukee reliever Yeison Rafael Sanders and later scored when Chris Duncan drew a bases-loaded walk from Ed Sutherland -- to go up 4-2.
The Walkers busted it open with four runs in the top of the ninth.
Wayne McHaney had a pinch-hit single off Caleb Walker to drive in the first run.
Daniel Becerra plated the second with another single.
Nick Shaw notched the final two with a double.
Wigfall (8-7) earned the win, he went 5.2 innings allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out nine and walked two.
Zachary Stella got the final out of the sixth.
Oscar Martinez pitched the seventh and eighth without incident.
Luke Dunkin took care of the ninth.
