BYDL - Outstanding Prospects
Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.
North Region
Lebowitz Selected Player of the Week: Nuke Lebowitz burst onto the North Region stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie first baseman for Wattz garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 15-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .579 (11-for-19) with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs last week.
For the season Lebowitz is hitting .380, batted in 96 runs with 27 home runs and 79 runs scored.
South Region
Star of the Week Named in SR: Michael Footclaw swung a blistering bat last week for Castle, rapping out 9 hits in 20 at-bats against Freedom opponents to propel himself to the South Region Player of the Week Award.
Whenever the second baseman hit the ball, he hit it with authority. The 18-year-old racked up a .450 batting average with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored.
This season Footclaw is batting .275 with 23 home runs. He has scored 78 runs and driven in 68.
Milestones
Hit Streak Now at 58 for Drool: With 2 hits at Covenant Park today, Jake Drool added another game to his hitting streak -- the Pleasant left fielder has now hit safely for 58 games in a row. But the hitting feat wasn't enough for the Minigunners today, as they fell, 19-10, to the Green Future Sea Urchins.
"Frankly, I don't care about hits," Green Future manager Ben Shea said later. "I'll let him get 5 hits in 5 at-bats if it means we get a win."
Jake Drool grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Glenn Gum in the 8th.
This season Drool is hitting .480 with 13 home runs.
