News of the Week
6 June - Orange Loses Tommy for Season: The season will end prematurely for Wuguns Tommy, the Orange starting pitcher. He suffered ulnar nerve entrapment on 06/02/2300, an injury that is serious enough to knock him out of action for the rest of the year. Tommy was not available for comment.
For this year Tommy has chalked up 1 win and 5 losses in 12 starts with 35 strikeouts in 52.1 innings and a 5.50 ERA.
8 June - Hits Galore: Johnson Drills 5 Hits: Walton Johnson said "it felt like taking batting practice" today at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field, and it showed in the box score. The Victory center fielder had a fantastic 5-for-5 day against the Wild Gatorclaws, leading his club to victory, 10-3.
"I was seeing the ball very well and it was going just about anywhere I wanted," Johnson said later."
Walton Johnson singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th.
For the year Johnson has hit at a .347 clip with 31 RBIs, 10 home runs and 38 runs scored.
9 June - 20 Games in a Row for Bobb: Chalk up another one for Wild Gatorclaws third baseman Ryan Bobb. He now has hit in 20 straight games. Bobb went 4-for-5 today's game at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field but saw his club defeated 9-7 by the host Victory Cave Crickets.
"Playing on the road always makes it harder to get hits and to get wins," Gatorclaws manager Mark Wike said after the game. "We got one of the two, but unfortunately it was the wrong one."
Ryan Bobb doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This year Bobb has hit 3 home runs and posted a .366 batting average.
10 June - Gatorclaws Get One to Win: Wild rode the magical arm of Ike Like in a 1-0 shutout win over Victory. He shackled them on 4 hits and fanned 3. Almost to a man, the Victory Cave Crickets said he had them guessing wrong all game long.
In 11 starts this year Like has recorded a 6-2 record and a 2.66 ERA.
11 June - Lockpick Bags NWL Best Player Award: The votes have been cast and counted and the winner of the Nuka World League Player of the Week has been chosen. It was presented earlier today to David Lockpick for his red-hot week of hitting.
The Orange right fielder took home the trophy by splurging with 10 hits in 24 at-bats for a .417 batting average, driving in 11 runs and scoring 3 times.
In 48 games this season Lockpick has compiled a .325 batting average with 62 hits and 8 home runs. He has also scored 35 times and knocked in 33 runs.
