News Around the League
12 June - Great Stroke: Lacombe Gets 5 Hits: Deuce Lacombe was smoking all game at the plate, but couldn't finish his day with a victory cigar.
After the 19-year-old Natick Banks Big Leaguers center fielder tallied 5 hits in 7 at-bats, he was forced to watch as his club dropped the 8-7 decision to the Postal Square Action Boys.
"That was no fun," Lacombe said to reporters after the game. "You hate to lose any game but it's even worse somehow to feel like you did enough to win."
Deuce Lacombe singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.
This year Lacombe is hitting .366 with 1 home run and 13 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .410 clip and scored 17 runs.
14 June - Freeman Twirls 12-0 Shutout: Frank Freeman of the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks really did a job on the Lifegivers today at The Cathedral Diamond, shutting them out 12-0. Freeman frustrated Union Hope hitters throughout the game, surrendering 4 hits. He struck out 3 and walked 4 in picking up the victory.
This year Freeman has compiled a 5-2 record with a 4.13 ERA.
Players of the Week
Raybathers Eiland CA Hitter of the Week: Nate Eiland demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.
The Mystic Pines right fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .385 average (5-for-13) with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
In this current campaign Eiland is hitting at a .290 clip with 7 home runs and 28 RBIs.
Sandifer Selected Player of the Week: Michaelangelo Sandifer burst onto the Massachusetts Association stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie left fielder for Somerville Place garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.
The 22-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .615 (8-for-13) with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs last week.
This season in 34 games, Sandifer has hit at a .388 clip with 45 hits, 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and 31 runs scored.
Prospect Spotlight
Performances Worth Noting: Here are three players who had an outstanding game in 2300 and what their CBO future could look like.
1B Mike Pushard, Trinity Plaza Snipers (Goodneighbor)
Game: 4/18 vs Natick Banks - 4 for 5, 3 HR, BB, 3 R, 5 RBI
Season: 50/126 (.397), 3 2B, 3B, 13 HR, 32 R, 29 RBI, 27 BB, 15 SO
Analysis: Pushard has some decent talent but may not quite be CBO material as he showed in his two chances on both the Starlight and Hancocks rosters. He has shown patience at the plate, which helps him a lot, and he is now a regular starter for the Snipers.
RF John Merrow, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury)
Game: 4/25 vs Fiddler's Green - 4 for 4, 2 HR, BB, 3 R, 5 RBI
Season: 37/121 (.282), 3 2B, 2 3B, 8 HR, 21 R, 22 RBI, 11 BB, 17 SO, 7 SB, 2 CS
Analysis: An undrafted free agent following the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Merrow was immediately scooped up by Fort Hagen. He stayed with the Silver Shroud franchise for 3.5 years before being traded to Roxbury midway through the 2299 season. In his one shot with the Fort Hagen team, he played in and started five games, batting .294 with a home run and two RBI. He is probably with the right franchise to get a solid CBO shot, especially since many speculate that he is currently better than Tim Hardman and Mike Thunderdome currently in the CBO.
LF Michaelangelo Sandifer, Somerville Place Sentry Bots (Egret)
Game: 5/10 vs Charles View - 2 for 3, 2 HR, 2 BB, 3 R, 6 RBI
Season: 45/116 (.388), 4 2B, 12 HR, 31 R, 36 RBI, 28 BB, 19 SO
Analysis: Sandifer feels like one of those players who already had his call-up. However, the third-year, former 2nd-round draft pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft is not considered ready. He is possibly on a star path, which will be helpful for Egret in time. He is close, though, and will be ready for sure when Paladin Danse is no longer willing to abuse his synth body.
