Notable Performances
  • April 11th: Ernie Broglio of Washington will be hoping his Opening Day one-hitter in a 2-0 win against New York is a good omen for the season ahead. So, too, will Cleveland’s Willie Wilson, who cracks 5 hits and drives in 3 runs in a 10-7 win over Detroit.
  • April 13th: Bill Stafford pitches a sparkling 2-hit shutout as the White Sox beat the Browns 2-0. Frank Castillo returns the favour for St. Louis the very next day, hurling a one-hitter in a 3-0 Chicago win.
  • April 17th: Cleveland superstar Willie Wilson goes 5-for-5 to help his side get past St. Louis 3-2 and maintain their unbeaten start to the season.
  • April 19th: Luis Castillo is totally dominant as he one-hits the Cards with 9 strikeouts in Cincy’s 2-0 win.
  • April 28th: Chicago’s Joe Mulligan gives up just 2 hits over 8+ in a 4-0 win over the Tigers.
  • May 1st: Washington’s Roy Parmelee pitches a splendid 2-hitter with 9 K in a 3-0 win over the A’s. Chicago’s Lefty Leifield does the same to the Bucs the very next day in a 5-0 victory.
  • May 9th: Erv Dusak goes 4-for-4 with a trip and 3 ribbies to help the White Sox past the A’s 8-3.
  • May 13th: a big game for Highlanders outfielder Frank Schulte, who goes 4-for-4 with 2 doubles, a homer and 4 ribbies in his side’s 7-6 defeat of Cleveland.
  • May 15th: 2B John Hummel leads the Doves to a 7-5 win over Pittsburgh with 5 hits including a homer, along with 3 RBI.
  • May 24th: Rollie Naylor pitches a nice 2-hit shutout against New York in a 1-0 White Sox win.
  • May 27th: Masato Yoshii of the A’s twirls a peachy one-hitter against Washington in a 4-0 win. He pitches another 5-hit shutout his next start a few days later.
  • 30th: Bill Monbouquette allows just 6 hits over 11 scoreless innings, but it takes his White Sox another 3 innings to get a 1-0 win.
