August 11-12, 2037: vs Atlanta (2)

Game 1: Jon Soranno continued to frustrate, giving up 5 runs in the first 2 innings and putting the Rays in a hole. But with this offense things like that usually don't matter and the relentless bats ended up pounding Atlanta 13-6 on 20 hits. There was too much offense to recap, so once again I'll just throw the hitting section of the box out there:

Soranno settled in after those first two innings to finish 6 7 6 6 2 9 and is now 10-4 with a 5.28 ERA. The much-maligned Tony Rey managed a 3-inning save (his 1st), allowing only a hit and a walk, as his ERA drops to 4.61.

Game 2: A homer barrage gave the Rays a 9-4 win over Atlanta to sweep the 2-game mini-series and make it 7 straight for Tampa Bay. Eric Titcombe led the parade with a pair of dingers, increasing his MLB-leading total to 35 with 3 more driven in to wrest the MLB lead in that category from teammate Omar Rodriguez with 94. Omar did drive in #93 with HR #25, while Bo Angeac had a big 2-run shot in the 3rd (#24) to put the Rays ahead for good and Jaiden Hardaway joined the 20-HR club with a solo blast. This was all more than enough for Tim Gates, whose 7.2 6 4 4 1 8 was marred by leaving him in a bit too long with a big lead in the 8th when Atlanta got two off him. Tim Siqueiros finished that inning and stayed on for the 9th after the Rays tacked on 2 more to increase the lead, so he picked up save #5 while Gates goes to 8-0, 2.87.

Team record: 84-30. Next up: Another off-day then we make a swing through Texas starting with 3 in Arlington.
