Charlie Keller III was the son of Charlie Keller, the noted outfielder of the New York Yankees, whose formal name was Charles Keller, Jr. Keller III was a first baseman who made his way through the Yankee system to get an invitation as a non-roster player to the Yanks' spring camp in 1962. The photo shows him in that capacity with Joe DiMaggio peeking over his shoulder.
The Minnesota Twins picked him up before the following season and placed him on their spring roster for 1963. However, the same injury that kept him from succeeding with the Yanks led to his retirement before getting a real chance with the Twins.
Following his baseball career, he had a successful career in harness racing and had a horse win the Hambletonian. His farm, inherited from his father, is called Yankeeland Farms. I believe it remains in the Keller family.
He passed away last month at the age of 82.
