Tied 3-3, St. Louis exploded for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the River Walkers went on to defeat Quad City 8-5 at Busch Stadium (2006).
The win gave St. Louis' victories in the first and third games of the three-game series.
Top cap a 4-for-4 with four RBIs effort at the plate, Bob Saavedra highlighted the outburst with a three-run home run off Thunder relief pitcher Edwin Certantes.
Prior to that, Chris Duncan had greeted Cervantes with an RBI single.
After the homer, Aaron Nixon drew a walk. He scored on a Jose Ramirez double.
The game had been tied 3-3 since the bottom of the fourth, when Saavedra singled off QC starter Romain Ortiz with two outs to drive in Nathaniel Dixon.
Walkers starting pitcher Jesse McNaboe went six innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.
After that, Greg Sones, Nick Ruffalo and rookie Micah Andrew all pitched one inning.
Andrew allowed a pair of runs in his major league debut.
Ruffalo (1-0) earned his first win of the season.
