Tip Tobin 1932

This elusive one-game New York Giants' prospect from 1932 popped up in a random Google image search - as a football player at Fordham, in a photo auctioned off on eBay, with a caption in the Russian alphabet.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Tobin pinch-hit on September 22, 1932. Grounded out. That was it. Between the short trip from the Fordham campus to the Polo Grounds in late spring, and that briefest of NL cameos, he'd gone to the Piedmont League, and was supposed to play for the Giants' farm in Knoxville in 1933. But he didn't. Didn't play pro football either.

Since the watermark was conveniently placed to avoid his head, I took the liberty of cleaning up the original publicity photo to make it a little more suitable for baseball.
