Grandma used to often send me things about the Cardinals when I was younger before she left this world, among other teams. She lived in the St. Louis area, and I was born in Missouri in 1973. I became a Cardinals fan when I was very young, probably sometime in the early 1980's, and definitely by the time we faced Milwaukee in 1982's World Series. I believe I was in the hospital for some eye thing when the Series began, in fact, though I could be wrong about that. Was very happy to see us win it all, especially when Sutter struck out Thomas to end the Series and get us another title. Such a shame to see what happened about twenty years later with Porter, of course.
I am still unhappy about us losing in 1985 and 1987, as well. We were thrown, I believe, at least in part, by that botched call, but we should still have been able to perform, nevertheless, in 1985. As far as 1987, even though I have spent most of my life in Twins territory, I think the Twins might possibly have had an unfair advantage over us back then, seeing as they had the Metrodome as their home stadium back then. I have never really been a fan of non-retractable domed stadiums for baseball or football, to be honest, for I believe very strongly that those sports should be played outside if and whenever possible, for multiple reasons.
Will write more later as I can and all, I'm sure, Lord willing. But it may be a little while before I do so again here, perhaps. CD out.
