July 30-August 1, 2038: vs NY Yankees (3)

Game 1: It was a fairly routine 9-4 drubbing of the Yankees as we returned to Publix Park from a long western road trip. Omar Rodriguez had another 4-hit game, driving in one, Jaiden Hardaway was 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI, Mike McKee went 2-2 with an RBI double, and Jim Gebers (#17) and Bo Angeac (#15) homered. Tim Gates gave us the usual Tim Gates start which would have been 6 innings and 2 runs allowed, but he came out for the 7th on 83 pitches and put the first two on, both of whom Jeff Reece allowed to score so Gates ended 6 8 4 4 1 7 but went to 13-3, 3.42. Reece stayed in for the duration and picked up his first save of the year with 3 scoreless.

Game 2: Another day at the office for the Rays as they polished off the Yankees 9-1. Ron Adams was excellent again, going 7 7 1 1 2 7 to improve to 15-2, 3.51 as he continues to cement his Cy Young credentials. The usual suspects paced the bat attack: Daniel Vasquez was 4-5 with a 2-run HR (#20), Danny Ayala had a 3-run HR (#26) and a sac fly to give him 92 RBI, and Jaiden Hardaway was 2-4 with a 2-run homer (#17) and a steal.

Game 3: The Rays had to work hard for this one but scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to take a 3-2 win over the Yankees and sweep the series to extend their winning streak to 5 and their recent run to 31 wins in their last 37. Down 2-0, Omar Rodriguez tripled in a run to make it 2-1 and then Danny Ayala blasted HR #27 to give the Rays the win. Josh Carsello started and pitched well, going 6 6 2 2 3 5 and Vinny Willard picked up win #6 with Kikuo Kawase closing it out for save #25.

Team record: 76-27. Next up: Kansas City visits for 4 games.
