Walkers news: April 1 -- Spring training -- Westerman to miss start of season with herniated disc
The St. Louis River Walkers have learned that closer Bobby Westerman will miss the first five weeks of the season, after he suffered a herniated disc while pitching in a 4-2 win over Chicago on March 31
The Walkers acquired Westerman, 27, just before the trade deadline last season, and the right-hander shined down the stretch converting all 15 of his save opportunities while going 1-1 overall with a 0.98 ERA n 18 games.
Right-hander Nick Strother will likely be moved into the closer's role.
The 31-year-old served as the Walkers closer in 2035 until Westerman's arrival.
Overall, Strother pitched in 55 games going 4-2 with 18 saves and a 3.19 ERA.
