Here we go again...
A heartbreaking loss in a pivotal game, the only way it would be worse is if this were an elimination game. The Rays came all the way back from 6-0 down only to lose the lead in the 9th as with Kikuo Kawase at about 50% rest Mike Wherry got the call and couldn't get it done, and after Jeff Reece struck out the side in the 10th he put men on 1st and 3rd with nobody out and that was that. The Rays had a great chance in the top of the 11th with 2 on and 1 out but Omar Rodriguez grounded out and Danny Ayala whiffed. So now it's all down to rookie Vinny Willard to save the season tomorrow.
At least they're not the Astros, whom despite winning 101 games and finishing 16 games ahead of the White Sox, were swept by them after being shut out today in part by former Ray farmhand Al Jackson:
Also as expected:
Will be interesting to see where Cervantes fits into things next season. I'll make a cryptic comment here and say that major changes may be afoot this winter.
