Boston Youth Series
Game 1 Summary:
Gamers Hammered by Westmoreland, Drop Game 1 to Baby Bellies
The Boston Common Baby Bellies started the Boston Youth Series in dominant fashion today, blowing out the host Lynn Pier Gamers at Lynn Pier Park by a score of 14-4 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Baby Bellies first baseman Kookie Westmoreland hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4.
Boston Common relied on the hitting of Dylan Orndoff to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a grand slam home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Baby Bellies on top, 8-2. For the game, Orndoff had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We were having a lot more fun that I would have expected for a playoff game," [personname l] told the Boston Common Citizen.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Lynn Pier Park. The scheduled starters for the game are Tato Robles for the Boston Common Baby Bellies and Daniel Picketfence for the the Lynn Pier Gamers.
Game 2 Summary:
Raucous Lynn Pier Park Crowd Propels Gamers to 5-2 Victory; Series Tied at 1
The Lynn Pier Gamers topped the Boston Common Baby Bellies by the score of 5-2 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Boston Youth Series today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Lynn Pier starter Bobby McDonald, who threw 6 innings allowing 2 runs in the win.
Bill Mahan aided the Lynn Pier cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the second baseman went 1 for 4.
In postgame remarks, McDonald said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
The next game is scheduled for Sunday, July 1st, 2300 at The Common Youth Field. Slated to start are Daniel Picketfence for the Lynn Pier Gamers and Anno Domingo for the the Boston Common Baby Bellies.
Game 3 Summary:
Orndoff Blasts Gamers, Baby Bellies Take Game 3, 9-5
The Boston Common Baby Bellies moved to within one game of the Round 4 today, downing the visiting Lynn Pier Gamers at The Common Youth Field by a score of 9-5. Baby Bellies second baseman Dylan Orndoff did some major damage. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The win gives the Baby Bellies a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Boston Youth Series.
With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Stu Gains barreled up a curveball from Ross Groleau. The result was a 3-run home run, putting the Baby Bellies in front, 9-5.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Orndoff.
Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow at The Common Youth Field. The scheduled starters for the game are John Massman for Lynn Pier and John Johnson for Boston Common.
Game 4 Summary:
Boston Common Wins it All
It was a hard-fought battle for both teams to make it this far. But as the saying goes, "to the victors go the spoils." For the victorious Boston Common Baby Bellies, that meant the Boston Youth Development League Boston Youth Series trophy.
The Baby Bellies took a 12-1 victory over the Lynn Pier Gamers at The Common Youth Field, winning their 1st championship after taking the series 3-1.
"We've got grit," said Baby Bellies right fielder Stu Gains, who was named MVP of the series. "We know how to win when we have to."
The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the South Region Samuel Adams Division and a 36-30 record.
