No, and that's not likely to happen - there are a number of in-game functions that use the stats in the histories, and editing them would break a few of them.

Not yet. We've tried and the attempts looked pretty ugly (and I think there were some technical issues as well), but I still want to get it in.

If you didn't add it, my vote would still be for it to still have numbers on the 2D view but with a legend elsewhere on the page which shows who is on the ice and says which numbers belong to which players. That may make the 2D view less cluttered which I know was a concern.

If you click the stop button, it'll pop up the player stats for both teams, which include the numbers. Some kind of overlay while play is underway might be an option, but I'd rather just try to get the on-ice names working.
