July 5-6, 2039: at Chicago Cubs (2)

July 4: Sent 2B Jaiden Hardaway to AAA Durham on a rehab assignment.

J-Hard has already hit 3 homers in his first 2 games at Durham but we'll give him a few more after we apparently rushed him back last time.

Game 1: Ron Adams got hit for three runs in the first inning and that was the ballgame as the Rays' bats were held to three hits in a 5-0 loss at Wrigley Field. A Quincy Siegle error meant those runs were unearned but Adams still wasn't sharp, going 5 8 4 1 3 5.

Game 2: The Rays' bullpen has been better of late after a rough start to the season, but they let the team down today in an 8-7, 11-inning loss to the Cubs which saw them blow a 7-2 lead. The Rays had taken the substantial lead primarily due to homers from Josh Alexander (#2, a 2-run shot), Ben Hill (#23) and Jim Gebers (#11). Jon Harbour turned in a decent start, going 5.1 7 2 2 2 3 and all the ingredients were in place for a win. But Joe Trader, Jose Morales, Ken Neil and Ken Burgess all were touched for runs with the latter taking the loss although Neil was the biggest culprit, entrusted with a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the 8th with two lefties due. He allowed the leadoff lefty to reach and then gave up a 2-run homer to another, enabling the Cubs to tie it up.

Team record: 57-29. Next up: Back home for 4 vs Boston before we hit the All-Star break.
