The current MLB system for the playoffs is rigged to make it unlikely the best team wins the World Series. Actually it's rigged so it's unlikely the best AL and best NL team even makes it to the World series.
To maximize your chances get rid of the divisions so there is a 15 team scramble in each league for first place and don't have any wild cards.
