Early June 2025 Team Update!
We have simmed up to the June draft and we are 30-25! Here are the expanded standings for the AL. We are only 1/2 a game back of the Angels with 3 games in hand!
Here is a look at how our overall team is performing and their rankings.
As you can clearly see, we need to find a way to add to our hitters (without subtracting too much defensively). As usual, pitching is carrying us.
Let's recap a few of the roster moves we have made in the first 2+ months or so.
April 27 - Traded
Michael King to create room for
Hunter Barco (see post above).
May 3 -
Kumar Rocker has a "tired arm" but is expected to miss only 5 days and is listed as "day to day". He ends up having two setbacks with this injury and doesn't make another start until May 20.
May 16 -
Gio Urshela sprains his ankle and is expected to miss at least 5 weeks.
Ricardo Mendez (acquired for
Josh Rojas in the offseason) has been recalled from AAA and is now starting in CF.
May 24 -
Hunter Barco tears the flexor tendor in his elbow and will miss a minimum of 12 months.
We needed another starter, so we traded
Daniel Tillo to Arizona for
Alex Young.
June 3 -
Alex Young tears an elbow ligament and will miss 12 months. He is an expiring free agent, so he likely won't be with us next year.
With that all said and done, let's take a look at how our MLB pitchers have done so far.
Kumar Rocker is absolutely amazing. After 9 starts his ERA is 1.42!
Kohei Arihara got off to a slow start, but has been quite good in his last 6 starts (not including his last start where he got ejected in the first inning).
Ky Bush has been fairly homer prone to start the season. He is consistently giving us 5+ innings, but only made it through 6 innings once in his last six starts.
The bullpen has been excellent aside from perhaps
Durbin Feltman who is having a very mediocre season so far.
*Note -
Ricky Vanasco (likely next in line SP at this point) and
Mason Thompson (using exclusive in relief now) are currently in AAA.
Now let us take a look at the hitters!
Terrin Vavra (who we considered trading to make room for
Tyler Freeman) has gotten hot again and raised his OPS to .831!
Evan Russell is now getting the bulk of the starts in LF, although
Steele Walker has also rebounded nicely.
Blake Rutherford has not yet got his bat going and could potentially be relegated to backup duties.
Since we need to find a way to add to our lineup, RF is likely priority area number 1.
Austin Hedges' numbers are grossly inflated by the BABIP around .400.
Ali Sanchez hasn't hit, so he will be our backup moving forward.
Josh Jung has a really poor April and we made
Colton Welker the starting 1B.
Then in May he had an OPS of 1.004! He has taken over at 3B since
Gio Urshela got hurt.
On April 20,
Tyler Freeman had an OPS of .830. We had a two game series in San Diego and wanted to keep his bat in the lineup, so we started him at 3B.
He went 0 for 8 in those two games and his production has continued to drop off since then.
Leody Tavares' days with us may be soon coming to an end. He is having a bit of bad luck with his BABIP down at .248 for the season (.296 for his career).
Now might be the time to move on from him before his value declines any further.
Here is a look at a couple hitters that are on the trading block right now!
Lastly, before we continue with this sim, here are our top two picks from this years draft!
