Walkers news: Sept. 22 -- St. Louis 11, Louisville 1, Game 1

Record: 89-60, 1st, 5.5 GA Cedar Rapids
Xavier Wigfall took a shutout into the ninth inning and St. Louis broke open a close game with five-run innings in the fifth and eighth to defeat Louisville 11-1 in the opening game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium (2006).
Wigfall (13-9) shut out the Sluggers on five hits over the first eight innings.
The right-hander appeared to run out of gas in the top of the ninth, when he allowed singles to the first three batters.
The third single, by Chris Ring, scored Joe Bien with Louisville's first run to make it 11-1.
Scott Rissler came on to retire the next two to end the game.
For his eight innings, Wigfall allowed one run on eight hits. He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Wigfall also had a pair of hits.
His first, a lead-off single in the third off Sluggers starting pitcher Victor Mendez, led to the game's first run when he scored on a Marcos Francis triple.
Wigfall also sparked the Walkers' five-run outburst in the fifth when he led off the inning with a double off Mendez.
He scored when Nathaniel Dixon followed with a homer.
Manuel Coke later doubled and scored on a Nick Shaw single.
Jose Segura drove in the inning's final two runs with a triple.
The five-run eighth inning for St. Louis was highlighted by a three-run homer by Shaw off Caleb Kinney, his 27th of the season.
Manuel Coke drove in the inning's first run with a single off Kyle Kulig.
Francis also had an RBI single off Kinney in the inning.
