I am not making a lot of transactions because I am trying to learn the team and tangentially the current players across the league.
That is not to say that I am not going to make transactions, pick up players, etc. as time goes on. I am also not saying that I just want their opening day team next year, I want any moves I make to hold as I go forward year to year.
You intrigued me with "have players keep them on their teams and have them auto-assigned to the correct teams". By that do you mean that if I trade Mark Giordano, for example, to Chicago, when the new rosters come out next year, I can import them and instead of remaining with Seattle he is in Chicago? I don't think you are but that is exactly what I would like to do. That and have the real draft class available for a draft in my particular league.
I do apologize for my struggles in getting my point across. This just isn't anything I have ever had to consider in OOTP, playing completely fantasy. Created players are all I have ever had. I appreciate your willingness to try to understand.

So the easiest thing in that sense then would be to start the game on July 1st and edit the league and turn trading off. You could turn off drafting as well and keep players on the teams that drafted them.
