That said, there does seem to be a fairly high degree of randomness in the faceoff calculation. So much so, that even guys who are rated 'faceoff slugs' can still win more draws than you might expect.

The other tactic that is effective in real life AND in-game, is to have two good faceoff men out on the same special teams line. (One center and one winger). If one gets tossed, the winger does go in and take his place. This can be a real advantage, particularly if the opposing center was also kicked out of the circle.
Oh thats too bad I guess I will need to rework my strategy a little. I tend to stick guys like Marcus Foligno in the centre. He has bad facoffs attribute (measly 9) but his superior strength and screening is just what need to fill the slot and help my shooters score. I still have at least one face-off specialist on the line but they tend to go on the wing. So hopefully they still participate if the slug gets tossed by the ref. Thanks for the reply!
