NWL's Star Player Named: So far in his young career, Spratt Turnpike has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Nuka World League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 23-year-old Victory Cave Crickets third baseman hit at a torrid .520 clip as he collected 13 hits in 25 at-bats, 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 5 runs scored. So far this season Turnpike has 9 home runs and a .363 batting average.

Quantum B, Grape B Lead League: The Quantum B Nukalurks (42-18) and Grape B Painted Ghouls (36-24) have large leads on Orange B and Cherry B (both 31-29) with 24 games to play. The Nukalurks currently have a magic number of 19 to claim the division, while the Painted Ghouls have a magic number of 20 to earn a spot in the Nuka B Series.

NWLB Player of the Week Picked: Deuce Slappe pitched his way to the NWL B League Player of the Week award with a 2-0 mark and an impressive 1.26 ERA last week.

In 14.1 innings the Quartz B hurler recorded 17 strikeouts, yielded 6 hits and walked 3.

This season Slappe has fanned 111 in 99.1 innings and collected a 8-7 record with a 2.17 ERA.

APYL News

Safari Adventure Gazelles Take Amusement Park Series: The Safari Adventure Gazelles ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Galactic Zone G-Force 6-5 to win the Amusement Park Series.

Safari Adventure won the series 2-1, capturing the title for the 1st time.

"We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Safari Adventure manager Cannonball Burse. "It's a great feeling."

The champs finished the regular season 26-15 and claimed second place in the APYL.

In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and shortstop Sugar Bomb Mendez said the Gazelles have "great fans and they deserve this."

"I am so happy for our team right now," Burse said. "The boys now get a chance to take a picture with Cito."

Rayburn Point AAA Takes Big Lead in Fog League AAA: The Rayburn Point AAA Patcheyes have won eight straight, while the Brooke's Head AAA Behemoths have lost five straight to take a 5.5 game lead. The Patcheyes have seven games remaining, while the Behemoths have 10.

National Park AAA Still Leads HLAAA: The National Park AAA Gulpers (36-19) maintain a 7.5-game lead over the Acadia AAA Acadians (30-28). The Gulpers play 10 more on the season, while the Acadians only get seven more chances to close the huge gap in the Harbor League AAA.

Rayburn Point AAA Pitcher Named FLAAA's #1 Player: Josh Mongeau of the Rayburn Point AAA Patcheyes received the Fog League AAA Player of the Week award today after a stellar week on the mound.

He finished off last week with 2 wins, an ERA of 1.12 and 17 strikeouts in 16 innings.

This season in 13 starts Josh Mongeau has a record of 8-3 with 101 strikeouts in 90.1 innings and a 2.69 ERA.

Ghoul Whales' Crewmate HLAAA Hitter of the Week: Adam Crewmate burst onto the Harbor League AAA stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie right fielder for Far Harbor AAA garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 21-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .526 (10-for-19) with 1 home run and 4 RBIs last week.

In his season totals, Crewmate has 3 home runs, .310 BA, .398 OBP, 24 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has played in 55 games.

Far Harbor Wins Maine Youth Series Crown: It's party time in Far Harbor. The confetti is flying and residents are smiling.

The Far Harbor Dockdwellers have reached the mountaintop, capturing the 2301 Maine Youth Series today. They defeated the Echo Point Glowers 4-3 at Echo Point Park to officially wrap up the series 2-1.

Asked how it feels to be champion, Series MVP CL Justin Hand was to the point. He earned a victory in Game Three and a save in the series.

"It feels great, like a million caps. I'm so happy right now, not just for me but for all the guys," he said. "We put a lot of work into this and deserve to be champions."

The team is planning a victory parade and fan appreciation day later in the week. Far Harbor finished the regular season 28-12 and claimed first place in the Mount Desert Island Four.
