Players of the Week
NL Player of the Week Named: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North League, but last week Dick Islands of the Medford Medics reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Islands rocked opposing pitching for a .615 average (8-for-13), 4 home runs and 6 RBIs to come away with the award.
Islands is batting .402 this year with 13 home runs, 27 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has 43 hits in 107 at-bats.
Star of the Week Honored in SL: The hottest bat of the week belonged to Neponset Park catcher Ponscum Williams.
He went on a rampage last week against SL hurlers and rapped out 7 hits in 14 at-bats for a .500 average while hitting 1 home run, driving in 4 runs and scoring 3 runs -- numbers quite worthy of the South League Player of the Week trophy.
Williams was honored today at a press conference.
Williams is hitting .328 for the season with 4 home runs, 28 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has 42 hits in 128 at-bats and played in 37 games.
