Sippers Win 2301 Boston Youth Series: Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.
It was the latter case in 2301, as the Beerthirty Sippers topped the Diamond City Newsboys 17-7 tonight at Carnival Court to win the Boston Youth Series. It was the 1st title in franchise history.
"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Beerthirty shortstop Cope Kearns, who was named series MVP.
The Sippers took the series 3-2. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the North Region Benjamin Franklin Division and a 46-20 record.
Beerthirty manager Curtain Riverstorm grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Kearns's words.
"Cope said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.
Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.
CCYL
Cape Cod Series Sweep for Chatham: The Chatham Lighthouse stunned the Provincetown Land Pirates by sweeping the Cape Cod Series 2-0. The Lighthouse dumped them 9-0 today at Ballpark at the Lighthouse in the deciding game of the series.
This was the 1st time Chatham has been the league champions. During the regular season the powerful Lighthouse chalked up a 24-16 mark and finished in first place in the Cape Cod League South Division.

Title Captured - Providence League Won by Hope: The Hope Lurk Grinders have their share of problems, but getting to the postseason isn't one of them. The club today clinched the Providence League crown.
"It's not a perfect clubhouse, we have issues just like any other team, but in the end we did what we had to do on the field," said reliever Herwee Wargo. "In the end, it's a roster of guys coming together for the same cause."
Team manager Loose Kear brushed off any suggestions there are issues in the clubhouse. "Anything that goes on, it's just regular stuff that any team would deal with," he said. "In the end, we won the division and that's all that matters."
The club has a 26-15 record and the division title is their 1st.
