2301 - Season Pass Report - July 15

News

Monday, July 15, 2301
In a joint effort, both the Nuka World League and Vim! League are looking to change rules to help balance out the offense and pitching in their minor league systems.

Currently both the NWL B and the VimAAA leagues have much lower batting averages than their big league counterparts. The NWL B is even more pronounced with no players batting over .300 and the league leader, Keychain Colvin of Quantum B, batting just .279. The league batting average is .189 in the NWL B and .207 in the Vim AAA.

"Pitching looks great," Eden Meadows AAA manager Training Heck said. "Unfortunately, we score about two runs a game. It's tough to win when the games are quite often shutouts." The Anglers average (2.8 runs per game).

In earlier news on the week, both the NWL B and Vim AAA leagues plan to break away from their parent leagues. Both John-Caleb Bradberton and Small Bertha cited marketing needs.

"It's great to see so many Nuka jerseys walking around the parks," Bradberton said, "but the truth is that we could sell even more merchandise if the minor teams had a different name."

Bertha said that she thought all teams in the Vim AAA may change their names in 2302. Bradberton was not sure. There were, however, some name changes that seem to be decided, while others will come closer to January 1. Neither league owner mentioned what the new league names may be called.

Among the expected name changes, these are some of the current proposals:

Teams in the NWL B League may adapt names of their local parks and attractions. That would mean in alphabetical order of current drink names, the following would change:

Cherry B -> Grandchester Mystery Mansion
Dark B -> Dry Rock Gulch
Grape B -> Kiddie Kingdom
Orange B -> Nuka-Town USA
Quantum B -> World of Refreshment or Nuka Bottling Plant
Quartz B -> Galactic Zone
Victory B -> Bradberton
Wild B -> Safari Adventure

There could be other possibilities, like naming teams after some of the most popular rides around Nuka-World or even taking the names from the Amusement Park Youth League and then forcing those teams to either take on the NWL B (or Y) names.

The Vim! League has been more definitive in its changes, including putting together make-shift parks in other parts of Mount Desert Island and its surrounding islands. The locations of those parks are as follows: Cliff's Edge Hotel, Eagle's Cove, Fringe Cove, Glowing Grove, Haddock Cove, Huntress Island, the Longfellow Estates, the Oceanarium, Southwest Harbor, and The Nucleus.

A few of the team name changes thrown around are Champions, Convicts, Fatboys, Hunters, Pickpockets, and Radchickens

NWL Names Nukalurks McMath Winner: 23-year-old T.J. McMath sent shock waves through Nuka World League last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Nuka World League Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, McMath made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .526 average, 10 hits in 19 at-bats, 2 home runs and 4 runs batted in. Where the Quantum Nukalurks third baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but McMath certainly made his mark last week. This season in 63 games, McMath has hit at a .326 clip with 76 hits, 7 home runs, 36 RBIs and 39 runs scored.

Division Remains Up for Grabs, but Orange in Postseason: It remains to be seen how the 2301 Orange Tourists will be remembered, but one thing is now assured - the team will have a chance to win their 1st Nuka Series.

On the strength of their 48-30 record, the Tourists today officially punched their ticket for the postseason, although it remains to be seen whether that will be as a division winner.

With one week remaining, four teams are vying for their chance to faceoff against the Tourists. Dark, which has a one-game lead over Grape, Victory, and Wild, is expected to earn that spot. The Bloodworms host both teams already eliminated, Quartz and Cherry, at home in the final six. Both the Gatorclaws and Cave Crickets must travel to Orange but could benefit from the Tourists resting players in anticipation of the Nuka Series.

He put up a 1-0 mark with 5 strikeouts, 2 walks in 9 innings, and a 0.00 ERA.

This year Olson has compiled a 6-5 record with a 2.46 ERA.

VIML AAA News

Gulpers Sweep Vim! Minor Series: With a 3-2 win over the Rayburn Point AAA Patcheyes tonight at Rayburn Point Park, the National Park AAA Gulpers wrapped up their 1st title in team history.

National Park AAA left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Gulpers celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said National Park AAA manager Oscar Spaceballs. "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as National Park AAA celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" in the works.

"We're going to celebrate our team, our championship National Park AAA Gulpers," the mayor said.

The champions completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Harbor League AAA and a 43-22 record.
