Walkers news: June 13 -- Louisville 7, St. Louis 2
Record: 37-27, 1st, 3.5 GA Springfield
Louisville scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and added two more in the fourth to go up 5-0, and the Sluggers went on to defeat St. Louis 7-2 at Dodger Stadium.
The loss ended an eight-game win streak for the River Walkers.
Bobby Chapman put Louisville on top with a two-run homer off River Walkers starting pitcher Jesse McNaboe in the bottom of the third.
An inning later, the Sluggers had their first three of their first four -- David Morales led off with a double, and after one out Jario Diaz singled and pitcher Kurt Halter scored -- to spark a three-run inning.
Halter's double scored the inning's first run.
The third double of the inning, with two out from Dan Boyle, made it 5-0.
St. Louis did crawl back to within 5-2.
But Louisville got a solo homer from Morales, off reliever Scott Rissler in the seventh, and an RBI single from Lance Brown (off Greg Sones) in the eighth, to stretch its lead back to five runs.
Halter, who was drafted by the Walkers, went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
Corey Wood got the final out of the sixth for the Sluggers.
Clyde Rayner (1.0 IP) and Matt Whitmore (2.0) combined to finish the game for Louisville.
