Walkers news: June 28 -- Green Bay 6, St. Louis 4
Record: 43-34, 1st, 5.5 GA Springfield and Quad City
Down 4-2, Green Bay scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game and two more in the seventh to take the lead as the Mallards defeated St. Louis 6-4 at Busch Stadium (2006).
The win allowed Green Bay to avoid a three-game sweep. St. Louis won four of the six games in the back-to-back.
A three-run bottom of the fifth had put the River Walkers in front 4-2.
Bob Saavedra and Marcos Francis both had RBI singles off Green Bay starting pitcher Jason Garrett.
The inning's third run scored when Mark Herman hit into a double play.
Alberto Landavedre got the Mallards moving with a one-out single off reliever Ron Cox in the top of the sixth.
Blaze Jordan followed with a single.
Scott Rissler then replaced Cox.
Landaverde and Jordan then pulled off a double steal, and when catcher Jackson Miller ended up in the outfield, Landaverde scored making it 3-2.
Pinch-hitter Sal Valdez then connected on a fly ball to deep center to score Jordan and tie the game.
An inning later, Green Bay grabbed the lead by scoring two more runs.
Brent Sanecal led off with a double off reliever Mike Fagan.
A Ray Well bunt moved Senecal to third.
After a strike out of Jim Moorman, Devon Reyna was given an intentional walk to bring Greg Sones into the game.
The lefty-against-lefty plan didn't work.
Right-handed hitting Hugo Vargas was inserted into the game and singled to put the Mallards in front.
Sones uncorked a wild pitch to put runners at second and third.
Jordan, who had hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starter Xavier Wigfall earlier in the game, collected his third RBI of the contest with a single.
Garrett went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out five and walked on.
Ernie Ruiz (1-0) pitched a scoreless sixth.
He would earn the win.
Matt Broussard shut out the River Walkers over two innings.
Matt Rodriguez did the same in the ninth for his 19th save.
