Walkers news: July 3 -- St. Louis 5, Springfield 2

Record: 45-36, 1st, 5.5 GA Springfield and Kansas City
St. Louis scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added two more in the third to pave the way for a 5-2 win over Springfield at Oracle Park.
The River Walkers struck quickly against Railers starting pitcher Tony Aceves.
Bob Saaverdra drew a walk to lead-off the game.
He scored when Marcos Francis followed with a double.
Mark Herman later scored Francis with a two-out single.
In the third, Herman collected both the RBIs with a two-run homer off Aceves.
The River Walkers added their final run in the sixth with Aceves still on the mound.
Herman was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
A Jackson Miller single moved Herman to third.
Herman scored when Abdul-Nasser bin Amr hit into a fielder's choice.
St. Louis got a strong starter from Josh McDonald (3-5).
He allowed two runs on seven hits in 7.1 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
The Railers' runs came on homers from Alex Otero in the fourth inning and Billy Salas in the fifth.
McDonald exited with one out and a runner on in the eighth.
Greg Sones got the Walkers out of the inning with the score still 5-2.
Closer Bobby Westerman walked two batters in the ninth, but got a pair of fly outs to end it.
Westerman's save was his 12th.
