As Jumpseat noted, your 2 top scouting spots are playing a part in that, as well as the quality of your Scouts. You may need a slight overhaul.

That's uncannily accurate for a simulation.
I'm interested to know how much variance there typically is though. Is it typical that the player points totals so accurately follow the real life statistics - and I also wonder how this is accomplished in the game, if it really is only based on adjusting player ability and not on any 'hard caps' or target values for points.

If you're only simming a year, you should hopefully see results like that - if you're playing with the development engine on, it can change as some players may never develop and some may exceed. You may also see some changes if for instance a guy like Bobby Orr stays healthier than he did in real life (although he's still susceptible to knee issues obviously).
If the league doesn't evolve too it's also interesting to see what happens.
