May 30-31, 2043: vs Philadelphia (2)

Game 1: The Rays took a 7-2 win over Philadelphia in the first of their brief 2-game interleague series. Jimmy Leonard had a massive game, going 4-4 with a 3-run homer in the first (#16) which sent them on their way, and Doug Johns and Josh Beckett were each 2-5 with an RBI. Greg Bookhart was solid, evening his record at 2-2, 3.45 with a 5.2 7 1 1 2 4 outing.

Game 2: The Rays used a 4-run 4th to take a 6-4 win over the Phillies and sweep the 2-game series. Tony Cordova kept the inning alive with an RBI single to cut the Philly lead to 3-2 and then Jose Mendez blasted a 3-run homer (#6) to put Tampa Bay ahead to stay. Seth Williams, who's not off to the start he had last year, hit his 5th homer in the first to tie it at one before former Ray Daniel Vasquez drilled a 2-run shot off Joel Gird in the top of the 4th to put the Phillies up. Gird hung in there for the win, going 5.2 7 3 3 0 4 to improve to 5-1, 3.84 and Mike Barkley continued to excel with yet another 2-whiff perfect 9th for save #15.

Team record: 44-10. Next up: We visit the Yankees for 4 games.
